Shark Attack in Texas

A Texas teenager is currently in critical condition following a shark bite while boating with his father over the Memorial Day weekend.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Monday when officials from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the U.S. Coast Guard, having received reports that a 17-year-old boy had been bitten by a shark near Galveston Island.

According to reports, the young victim, his father, and another person were roughly two hours offshore when the bite happened. It seems the boy was attempting to pull the shark onto the boat when the incident occurred.

As soon as the bite happened, the boy’s father applied a tourniquet and started navigating towards the Galveston Yacht Basin. However, their boat later became inoperable near the pier.

This breakdown prompted a response from the Coast Guard, and rescuers quickly applied a second tourniquet to the boy to control his bleeding before bringing him back to shore.

Authorities have not provided information on the cause of the boat malfunction or how the shark ended up in close proximity to the boat.

Once they reached land, the victim was conscious and was subsequently taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch for medical attention. Details regarding his injuries or the species of the shark involved have yet to be disclosed.

Both the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard have not responded to requests for further information.
