Teen Charged with Murder of Elderly Couple
A 17-year-old in Mississippi is facing trial for the alleged murder of an elderly couple who had employed him for odd jobs. Cordarius Hobbs was taken into custody following a lengthy standoff with law enforcement on June 3.
The tragic events unfolded around 10 a.m. as three contractors arrived at the residence of 75-year-old Bill Blair and his 71-year-old wife, Carol, to install a generator. Upon arrival, investigators noticed Carol Blair’s car door left ajar and several firearms visible inside.
An hour and a half later, deputies were called to conduct a welfare check on the couple. When they arrived thirty minutes after the initial report, they discovered signs of gunfire, leading to a standoff with the suspect for about two hours.
Hobbs attempted to escape but was apprehended. At the time of his arrest, he was dressed in black and carrying a bag, but he did not possess a weapon. Although he suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Inside the home, authorities recovered 280 shell casings and three firearms, all belonging to Bill Blair. Both victims were found shot: Carol Blair in her bedroom and Bill Blair in the kitchen, each with multiple gunshot wounds.
In addition to robbery charges, Hobbs faces two counts of capital murder, along with numerous counts of aggravated assault, including actions against law enforcement and individuals over the age of 65.
The couple’s family highlighted their kindness, stating they had hired Hobbs to help around the house.
A chaplain shared fond memories, describing the Blairs as a devoted couple who lived their lives with evident faith and a willingness to lend a hand to others.
Interestingly, shortly after Hobbs was arrested, his two brothers became involved in a separate incident, facing legal troubles of their own after a police officer was shot during a traffic stop. They were eventually found hiding after engaging in a gunfight with law enforcement.
The officer involved sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
