Sledding Accidents Claim Lives in Texas and Oklahoma
On Sunday, a tragic sledding incident in Texas resulted in the deaths of a 16-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman in Oklahoma. Reports indicate that the 16-year-old, Elizabeth Angle, suffered fatal injuries when the sled she was on was being towed by a Jeep Wrangler in Frisco, Texas. According to local police, Elizabeth’s best friend, who was also on the sled, is currently on life support.
Witness accounts reveal that a 16-year-old boy was driving the Jeep while pulling the two girls on the sled when it hit a curb and crashed into a tree. Police arrived to find both females in critical condition and initiated life-saving measures. They were transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, one of them did not survive. The other remains in serious condition.
Elizabeth was a sophomore at Wakeland High School and played on the girls’ soccer team. The team posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, asking the community to keep her family and friends in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Additionally, in Oklahoma City, 31-year-old Makayla Mitchell lost her life in a similar sledding accident on the same day. Reports indicate that she was on a sled being towed by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old when the connecting rope broke, leaving the sled in the road. Shortly after, another driver struck her, and both drivers are now facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and aggravated DUI, as they were reportedly impaired at the time.
These tragic incidents occurred amid severe winter storms affecting several states, resulting in multiple fatalities due to frigid temperatures and emergency responses to snow removal efforts. Notably, areas in the Northeast, such as New York and Philadelphia, experienced significant snowfall, while Miami is bracing for its coldest temperatures in years.
