Teen Arrested in Connection with Grandmother’s Murder
A teenager was apprehended in New York City linked to the tragic murder of her 69-year-old grandmother, who was walking with a friend in Harlem. The suspect, 18, was tracked down during a coordinated operation involving Homeland Security Investigations, the NYPD’s violent gang task force, and federal agents.
The shooting, which occurred on August 27th, resulted in the death of Robin Wright, who was struck in the face by a bullet while using a walker around lunchtime near East 110th Avenue and Madison Avenue.
Wright’s friend, Juanita Arnold, expressed her sorrow, stating, “This wasn’t necessary. The woman never deserved to die like that.” She recalled Wright’s intention to get out and enjoy the day while looking for her grandson. Wright was outdoors as part of her recovery from a recent leg surgery.
Authorities believe the shooting unfolded during a botched marijuana robbery when two suspects fired back at the victim, who had chased them. Arnold noted, “She wanted some movement… but she never got it back.” It’s heart-wrenching to think about.
Neighbor Sonya Hampton described the scene, remembering seeing Wright on the ground. Efforts to catch another suspect are underway, and it follows the arrest of several teenagers involved in a separate drive-by shooting in the Bronx.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams highlighted a troubling pattern, stating, “The shooters are getting younger and younger.” He pointed out the implications of recent legislation that may contribute to this trend.
As of now, the NYPD has not released further comments regarding the situation.
