Teen Injured in NYC During Knicks Game Celebration
A 17-year-old was seriously injured in Manhattan during the New York Knicks’ comeback win against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, according to police reports.
The New York City Police Department has shared a photo of a suspect, dressed in a referee-style shirt, seeking public assistance in identifying him.
Reports suggest that the assailant may have been a Twitch streamer who was provoking Knicks fans by shouting “Spurs in Seven!” The incident, which was allegedly livestreamed, occurred outside the Juniper Bar on West 35th Street, just a couple of blocks away from Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks clinched a 107-106 victory with a last-second shot.
Eyewitness accounts disclose that as the victim and her friend responded to the provocations, a bystander yelled, “Fuck you!” which led to a brief dispersal of the crowd only to quickly reignite into chaos.
Witnesses noted that the individual in the referee shirt assaulted the teen, delivering multiple punches and kicks.
Video footage later showed the victim standing alone, visibly injured, before he reportedly suffered a seizure and was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, the teen has now regained consciousness and is expected to recover.
According to NYPD reports, the assailant remained at the scene appearing intoxicated. Meanwhile, staff at the Juniper Bar mentioned they were overwhelmed with patrons and did not witness the altercation.
Amid the celebrations, NYC saw chaotic scenes where, as the Knicks secured their win, jubilant fans engaged in destructive behavior that resulted in injuries to police officers and numerous arrests. Videos depicted fans vandalizing property and setting off fireworks in Midtown, contributing to a tumultuous environment.
The police noted that the crowd outside Madison Square Garden swelled to about 10,000, becoming increasingly unruly as the game progressed.
