Teenagers Arrested After Stolen Car Crashes into Home in South Carolina
Authorities reported that a stolen vehicle sped through residential yards and collided with a house in South Carolina, prompting a police pursuit involving deputies, K9 units, and even a drone.
Footage released by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office captures the moment the car crashed into the residence, with deputies immediately rushing to the scene in pursuit of the fleeing individuals.
“Is everybody alright?” one deputy is heard asking while checking for potential injuries in the home.
The incident occurred on October 15, around 2:30 p.m., when deputies attempted to intercept the reported stolen vehicle. However, the driver fled the scene, and deputies did not pursue the car before it crashed into a house on Renwood Road in Simpsonville.
Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were ultimately apprehended and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, with no injuries reported as a result of the crash.
The released video shows one deputy chasing down a fleeing suspect while another quickly heads toward the damaged home. The passenger was detained shortly, while the search for the driver escalated with aerial assistance and ground support.
K9 teams utilized several dogs to track the driver’s route, and drone operators provided an overhead perspective of the neighborhood, according to the sheriff’s office. The video also illustrates a dog picking up a scent from the vehicle and beginning its tracking.
“When someone decides to run from law enforcement in Greenville County, they quickly learn that our deputies have more than one way to find them,” the sheriff’s office remarked in a social media post accompanying the video.
Residents expressed their shock at the sudden incident, which disrupted an otherwise normal afternoon. One neighbor, Rachel Bush, mentioned she had just put her baby down for a nap when she heard a loud crash outside. She had been walking with her baby and dog just moments before the accident.
“We were grateful we were back inside before everything happened,” she shared.
Another resident, who was not home at the time of the crash, returned shortly after to discover the damage done to their home. They had missed having another vehicle in the garage by mere inches, resulting in a significant cleanup effort.
Another neighbor, Robert Belcher, offered condolences after the incident, expressing relief that no one was home when the crash occurred. He emphasized the importance of considering the consequences of one’s actions to the teenagers involved.
