Teenager’s Heart Stops During Baseball Game; Stranger Rescues Him Using Tip from a TV Show

What a remarkable story!

A mother faced what must have been the most terrifying ordeal, yet it transformed into a profound blessing—thanks to a complete stranger who saved her son’s life.

Evan Tucker, 15, has a deep passion for baseball, even if he’s not particularly adept at playing it. “He tried soccer and basketball, but baseball has always drawn him in,” said his mom, Samantha Tucker. “He really enjoys it.”

Evan recently wrapped up his freshman season with the Pinson Valley High School baseball team, and afterward, he was eager to play travel ball. When Easter weekend rolled around, tryouts were on the horizon, but something unexpected occurred during practice.

“I think he believed he hit the ball,” his mother recalled. “I jumped up when someone shouted, ‘He’s having a seizure,’ and I panicked.”

But it turned out it wasn’t a seizure; Evan was in cardiac arrest, his heart had stopped. “It was total chaos, a complete shock,” his mother explained. “I was at a loss for what to do.”

Fortunately, a stranger rushed to the field and noticed Evan turning blue. She immediately began administering CPR.

“I learned CPR in high school when I was 17, but I hadn’t needed to use it in 40 years,” said Johnet Wilmott. She had been there to support an 11-year-old trying out for the team. Wilmott performed CPR for about eight minutes while waiting for the ambulance, even humming along to the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.” Quite impressive!

At Children’s Hospital, Evan was in a critical state and initially placed in a coma for several days. Thankfully, he began to recover during his time at the hospital. By Sunday, he had been cleared for inpatient rehabilitation and was already walking and talking again, showing steady signs of improvement.

Gratitude is due to the “angels” who saved Evan on that day.

This incredible tale brings to mind a similar incident in 2019 when a group of men in Arizona used CPR techniques to rescue a woman who had lost consciousness in her car. It’s so inspiring how quick actions can make a difference.
