According to reports, a harrowing video was captured on camera showing at least 10 adults and children fighting at a kindergarten graduation ceremony in Tennessee earlier this month.
Police say a disturbance occurred at Buckley Carpenter Elementary School in Summerville, Tennessee on May 15, 2024, when tensions between two women in the crowd escalated into violence. Fox 13 Memphis.
The adults, identified as Tayshia Humphries and Kiera Smith, were seen fighting in the bleachers of the gym while witnesses tried to escape the madness.
In addition to the brawl in the stands, at least two other people were seen exchanging blows multiple times on the basketball court.
According to the outlet, Tayshia Humphries told police she was attacked first, but Smith claims a childhood friend was the one who started the fight.
Security video obtained by police reportedly showed Tayshia Humphries walking into the gym and sitting directly behind Smith.
According to the media, Smith then moved from her original seat and sat next to the father and child.
Investigators said Smith and the child got into an argument, during which the woman became aggressive, prompting Tyshia Humphries to run down into the bleachers from a few rows back and strike Smith from behind, starting a fight.
Rhonda Humphries, the mother of one of the boys arrested in the fight, told Fox 13 she felt he was wrongfully arrested and witnessed an adult elbow her son in the head during the fight.
“I became hysterical. The police called an ambulance,” she told the outlet. “They told them he had a concussion and let him go.”
Following the graduation incident, a man named Dantavious Gilcrease and mother and daughter duo Rhonda and Tyshia Humphries were arrested. The relationship between Gilcrease and the Humphries has not been disclosed.
According to the outlet, Gilcrease was arrested outside the school after he allegedly told Rhonda Humphries he would “shoot her in the face.”
According to the media report, Tayshia Humphries was charged with violating a protection order, inciting a riot and three counts of simple assault.
The incident came a week after a graduating senior at Hamilton High School in Memphis, Tennessee, hurled his diploma at another student, sparking a fight.
The brawl allegedly began when security officers noticed an upperclassman throwing gang signs at other students and removed him from his seat at the Cannon Center.
As the boy is being taken away, the video shows him throwing his diploma at a student who allegedly made gang signs.
The student then jumped across three rows of seats and chased after the attacker.
