Tennessee Police Arrest Potentially Drunk Grandmother For Attacking Family With Knife On Thanksgiving

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) arrested a grandmother for allegedly attacking two of her family members with a knife during a Thanksgiving gathering.

The 55-year-old grandmother, Lachunda Johnson, was charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence, aggravated assault and domestic assault, MPD said in a statement.

Law enforcement say they mobilized to the scene and found “two victims” with “wounds to their hands.” The grandmother allegedly fled the scene, but police later found her. “There were three juveniles on the scene when the stabbing occurred. All were uninjured,” MPD said. (RELATED:Sword-Wielding Man Allegedly Stabs Five, Kills Teen In London: REPORT)

Officers spoke to one of the victims at the hospital who informed MPD that she and Johnson —her mother — were in a heated argument about the suspect allegedly pushing her son, WMC reported. Johnson then allegedly charged at the victim with a kitchen knife and inflicted abrasions to the victim’s left hand. Johnson then allegedly attacked her grandson with the knife and hit him near his thumb, police said.

The MPD alleged that the grandmother was drinking at the time of the assault and was likely drunk. No bond was set for the suspect.

This is not the first time that a Thanksgiving dispute allegedly turned violent. A 52-year-old Chicago man was reportedly fatally stabbed after a dispute over holiday leftovers back on Nov. 30, 2023. The suspect was a 29-year-old man who allegedly had several rounds of drinks before the alleged deed. The victim confronted the suspect about eating leftovers with his bare hands, allegedly leading to the 29-year-old punching the victim and later stabbing him nine times.

The suspect’s lawyer claims his client was acting in self-defense. The suspect was held on $350,000 bond and reportedly had three prior felony convictions.
