Tennis fans to preview dining choices at the US Open

Tennis enthusiasts will soon experience a taste of the U.S. in a fresh mixed-doubles format. There are sneak peeks of new dining choices set to launch next month.

Within the typically elite and pricey atmosphere, details have emerged about pasta offerings from James Beard-nominated chef Robbie Ferris, a new take from Simon Kim at Coqodaq, and the return of renowned chef José Andrés.

Officials from the United States Tennis Association shared that regular favorites like Alex Guanasherri, Kwame Onuachi, Ed Brown, David Burke, Josh Capon, Pat LaFrieda, and Morimoto Hayashi will also take part.

Starting during Fan Week on August 19th and 20th, the Mixed Doubles Tournament celebrates its 25th anniversary, with a grand prize of $1 million awarded to the winning team, including her partner Riley Opelka.

The front end is looking solid as well.

Andrés returns to the U.S. for the first time since 2019, introducing Oyamel. His restaurant group will collaborate with the Dobertequila Club to create a restaurant and lounge offering a variety of Mexican dishes and cocktails, featuring items like Oyamel Taco Sinita with Yucatan-style pork, achiote, Mexican sour oranges, and pickled red onion.

Known for his $350 per person secret, Ferris showcases a 14-course Omakase experience in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, alongside fusion cuisine, managing four restaurants across New Jersey. He revealed to Side Dish that his Mystery Pasta Leman menu will be available at the U.S. Open through a discreet social media drop.

He teased, “We’ll have three appetizers and Izakaya-style finger foods that people love, plus ramen.” Also on the menu are two dessert options, including the famous zeppoli bao bread and a new strawberry Yuzu Italian ice that he describes as “cool and new.”

“Who wouldn’t want something cold while out in the heat?” he added.

Simon Kim, founder and CEO of Glacier Hospitality Management and the Michelin-star Court Korea Steakhouse, is back for a second year, introducing new items. The ‘CQDQ’ at the Food Village will offer chicken sandwiches, while Coqodaq will continue to serve favorites like “Golden Nuggets” paired with caviar at its original location in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Kim noted, “It’s a huge undertaking, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”

The dining hall will open after Fan Week, featuring a star-studded culinary lineup with chefs like Ed Brown, Iron Chef Morimoto, and James Beard Award-winner Kwame Onuachi.

Guanasherri returns for his fifth year, offering Mediterranean dishes and cocktails, alongside David Burke’s Cuban-American fusion at Mojito, and Josh Capon’s lobster rolls, tuna, and oysters.

New and returning favorites will also include LaFrieda Meat Co., Champions by Benjamin’s Steakhouse, Carnegie Deli, San Matteo NYC, Dos Toros Taqueria, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Fuku, Eataly, Korilla BBQ, Poke Yachty, Hill Country BBQ, King Souvlaki, The Migrant Kitchen, The Nourish Spot, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, and more.

Fan Week kicks off on August 18th, followed by the Mixed Doubles Tournament starting the next day.

In addition, notable competitors in the 16-team mixed doubles bracket will include Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, Emma Navarro, and Anna Anisimova.

Brendan McIntyre from USTA mentioned that the transition to Fan Week will see top singles stars collaborating to vie for the Grand Slam Championship. He also noted that ticket sales for the main draw are over 10% higher than last year, with subscriptions for the full tournament at Arthur Ashe Stadium nearing 98-99%.
