Tennis player Radhika Yadav reportedly killed by her father during a disagreement about her career

Tragic Incident Involving Indian Tennis Player

An Indian tennis player has reportedly been shot by her father. The 25-year-old, Radhika Yadav, died on Thursday in Gurugram, India. Her father, Deepak Yadav, has been taken into custody.

The police were alerted by a hospital that Radhika had died from gunshot wounds, but, interestingly, only her uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, was present at the hospital. He has since lodged a formal complaint about her death at the local police station.

According to various reports, the incident occurred at their home following a dispute related to Radhika’s involvement with a tennis academy. There seemed to be some tension between her and her father concerning her career choices.

Deepak reportedly had concerns about the way others perceived Radhika’s earnings. A police officer noted that Deepak was upset, feeling burdened by local gossip suggesting he was overly reliant on his daughter’s success. He had asked Radhika multiple times to stop her work at the academy, which she resisted. This conflict, authorities believe, escalated dramatically.

In a police statement, Deepak has claimed he fired five shots at Radhika, with four of them hitting her.

Radhika’s friend, Himaanshika Singh Rajput, took to social media to express her grief. She shared her disbelief at losing someone so vibrant and full of potential. In her post, she described Radhika as bright and kind, emphasizing that she didn’t deserve this fate.

Throughout her career, Radhika competed in 36 singles and seven doubles matches on the ITF circuit, with her last professional match occurring in March 2024.
