Teoscar Hernández of the Dodgers experiences a hamstring injury

Dodgers Face Another Injury Setback

The Dodgers are again grappling with injury issues. Just before Wednesday’s game, they placed Quique Hernandez on injured reserve due to an oblique strain. Moments later, they had to remove outfielder Teoscar Hernandez from the game because of a left hamstring strain.

During the second inning, Teoscar sprinted towards first base on a grounder, but he seemed to hurt himself as he limped back after the throw. It was evident something went wrong when he grabbed his hamstring and walked off the field slowly, accompanied by a trainer. Returning to the dugout, he looked visibly shaken, even almost slamming his helmet in frustration before heading to the clubhouse.

Kim Hye-sung stepped in for Hernandez, filling the left field position for the remainder of that half-inning. The Dodgers confirmed that Teoscar had a left hamstring strain, but details were sparse.

The timing couldn’t be worse—the team was already dealing with Quique Hernandez’s injury, which manager Dave Roberts described as a “significant tear” in his oblique muscle.

On a positive note, Teoscar was just finding his rhythm at the plate. After a slow start this season, he had been on a roll, batting .373 over his last 17 games, hitting three home runs and racking up 14 RBIs. This performance pushed his season average from .236 to .278.

If Teoscar needs a stint on the injured list, the Dodgers have some minor league options to consider.

One standout is James Tibbs III, a left-handed hitter excelling in Triple-A with a .316 average and 12 home runs, although he’s had some defensive hiccups with four errors in right field. Ryan Ward, who recently made his MLB debut, could also be an option, but his numbers in Triple-A have fallen compared to last year’s MVP season in the Pacific Coast League.

Looking at the 40-man roster, there’s Alec Thomas, acquired in a recent trade and currently honing his skills in Arizona. Tyler Fitzgerald, another utility player, was brought in from the Blue Jays earlier this season.

Additionally, Tommy Edman is still rehabbing and needs more time to recover after undergoing ankle surgery in the off-season.

On the major league roster, Teoscar’s injury might open up opportunities for backup outfielder Alex Cole, who’s been performing well with a .292 average this season. Kim also has the capability to play outfield, which may create more chances for him, especially with manager Roberts hinting that Freeland could be getting more time at second base upon his return to the majors.

In any case, Teoscar’s recent performance has been crucial to the Dodgers’ offensive momentum, and now they face yet another challenge with his injury.
