(NEXSTAR) – Tesla has announced a new recall to fix a potentially dangerous issue affecting seat belts.
The recall affects more than 125,000 vehicles in four models, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The seat belt warning system is supposed to give visual and audible signals if a driver isn’t properly fastened in their seat belt, but some vehicles may not give any warning at all, NHTSA said.
The recall includes certain 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles.
NHTSA said that as of Tuesday, Tesla had identified 104 warranty claims that may be related to the condition. The company is not aware of any crashes, deaths or injuries that may be related to the condition.
Starting in June, billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla will begin offering eligible vehicles a free over-the-air software update that will remove the software’s reliance on the driver’s seat occupancy switch and trigger seat belt reminder signals based solely on the driver’s seat belt buckle and ignition status.
Last month, Tesla recalled 3,878 2024 models.CybertruckThe accelerator pedal won’t movevehicleThis can cause unintended acceleration and increase the risk of a collision.
