Tesla recalls new cybertrucks over accelerator hazard

Tesla is recalling some Cybertrucks due to a dangerous gas pedal.

according to Recall notice The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that the accelerator pedal pad can become dislodged, causing the pedal to become wedged in interior trim.

Notice of recall Estimation The accelerator pedal hazard affects approximately 3,878 vehicles. The issue could “cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a collision.”

Customers with affected vehicles will be notified in a letter scheduled to be sent in June. For more information, owners should contact Tesla Customer Service.

According to NHTSA, Tesla will replace or repair the gas pedal assembly in affected vehicles free of charge.

The Hill has reached out to Tesla for comment on the recall.

News of the recall comes on the heels of a delayed launch of Tesla’s electric Cybertruck.

The company, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, announced in July that the first Cybertruck was “rolled off the assembly line” for distribution. The product’s launch was nearly two years later than planned.

Musk announced the truck in late 2019 and the company said production would begin in late 2021, but Tesla said production would start slowly and in lower numbers than other vehicles.

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in November, Musk said he expected Tesla to produce about 200,000 trucks a year at peak production. He did not say when the company would reach peak production.
