Texas AG Ken Paxton urges schools to reintroduce prayer and the Bible

Texas Attorney General Advocates for Bible and Prayer in Schools

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed his desire for all schools in Texas to have time dedicated to reading the Bible and engaging in prayer. He stated, “I’ve always believed that God’s Word should be opened, the Ten Commandments displayed, and prayers lifted in Texas classrooms,” emphasizing his commitment to these values.

Paxton commented on the opposition to this law, arguing that it aims to undermine the moral fabric of society, asserting, “I will not sit idly by while our guiding values are stripped away and religious freedoms are trampled.” Therefore, he is urging a return to prayer in educational settings.

In his September 2 statement, he noted that the Bible is integral to the nation’s foundation. “In Texas classrooms, we should see God’s word, the Ten Commandments, and prayer,” he added. He described those opposed to this initiative as “twisted radical liberals,” who, in his view, seek to erase the truths that underpin America’s success.

The Texas Legislature recently approved Senate Bill 11, permitting school boards to allocate time for Bible reading and personal prayer. According to a press release from Paxton’s office, “Each Independent School District board in Texas must take a record vote on whether to adopt such policies by six months after September 1, 2025,” and parent consent will be necessary for student participation.

Comments from Kim Helman, president of the Southeastern Legal Foundation, suggested that Paxton’s call for school prayer resonates positively with both parents and students. Helman mentioned, “Children today often feel uncomfortable mentioning prayer or even the word ‘Bible’ in schools.” She noted that the Biden administration has targeted religious practices, leading to a decline in religious expression in schools.

Paxton’s initiative aligns with a broader movement calling for Americans to dedicate weekly time at the Bible Museum to pray for the nation. Former President Donald Trump announced that the Department of Education would soon publish guidelines aimed at protecting the right to pray in schools.

The conversation around religious practices in public education continues to draw attention, with many adult Americans reportedly in favor of incorporating religious figures into schools.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach the ACLU in Texas for their perspective but did not receive a response immediately.
