Texas A&M Controversy: Representative Removed After Student Concerns

A Texas representative was reportedly removed from a class at Texas A&M after students raised questions regarding the transgender-related material being taught.

Representative Brian Harrison expressed his dismay at discovering, after his election in 2021, that Texas might be a leading supporter of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and LGBTQ initiatives across the country. “Texans are taxed, and their funds are used against their own values and beliefs regarding their children,” he commented. He believes that Texas should focus on combating what he sees as leftist indoctrination instead of funding it. He also called for the firing of Texas A&M’s president and a refund for all DEI and LGBTQ initiatives.

In a recent post on X, Harrison detailed how students were allegedly expelled for opposing considerations of transgender issues. He mentioned the administration’s defense of LGBTQ research in his commentary.

Following a request for clarification from Texas A&M University, President Mark A. Welsh III responded to the uproar via a post on the university’s X account. He noted that there had been approved plans to continue instructing on course materials that did not align with descriptions provided in the course catalog, leading him to direct the removal of certain deans and department heads from their positions.

Welsh added, “Students rely on course catalog information to make critical choices about their education. Deviation from this can lead to disappointment,” emphasizing the need for transparency in academic offerings.

Additionally, calls for dismissal of a professor involved in the situation have risen, with Governor Greg Abbott backing these claims. In a letter, Harrison revealed that evidence from a whistleblower student indicated he was dismissed from a children’s literature class after voicing concerns over what he termed “indoctrination” related to transgender issues. He described being instructed on “gender unicorns” that, in his view, promote an extreme ideology. Furthermore, he criticized the professor for allegedly suggesting that childhood is an opportunity to explore gender identities.

Harrison has proposed numerous bills aimed at ending taxpayer support for DEI and LGBTQ programs and is urging Abbott to convene a special session to advance his initiatives.
