Texas Senator Files for Divorce
Texas Senator Angela Paxton announced on Thursday that she is filing for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton, citing “biblical grounds.” This revelation comes amidst long-standing rumors about Ken Paxton’s alleged infidelities, which have drawn public scrutiny in recent years.
Ken Paxton described the divorce as stemming from “the pressure of countless political attacks.” However, Angela made it clear that she believes it would not be in accordance with God’s will to remain married to someone she considers an adulterer. Ken has denied any wrongdoing.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on Bible grounds,” Angela stated on social media. She emphasized that marriage is a sacred covenant and that she had genuinely pursued reconciliation. “But with recent discoveries,” she continued, “I don’t think it respects God or shows love for myself, my children, or Ken to stay in this marriage.” She expressed confidence that God is always at work.
Ken Paxton responded, acknowledging that he and Angela “decided to start a new chapter in our lives.” He expressed pride and gratitude for the family they built together and requested privacy during this challenging time.
The couple’s troubles have played out publicly over the last few years, especially since Ken Paxton faced accusations of favorable treatment for political donors and assisting his mistress, Laura Olson. He was accused of intervening in a lawsuit involving a donor, which drew significant attention and resulted in a whistleblower coming forward. In a legislative testimony, details about Ken’s relationship with Olson were revealed, which were said to negatively impact office morale.
Despite these controversies, Ken Paxton narrowly escaped conviction by the Texas Senate, which voted 16-14 in favor of acquittal. Federal investigations did not lead to any charges against him. Throughout these trials, Angela remained by his side, participating in the trial but was prohibited from voting on the outcome.
Since taking office as Texas AG in 2015, Ken Paxton has been known for his aggressive legal strategies, filing over 50 lawsuits against the Biden administration. Recently, he announced plans to challenge Senator John Cornyn in the upcoming election, with polling suggesting a lead for Paxton over Cornyn. Senator Ted Cruz chose to remain neutral, acknowledging friendships with both men.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has expressed support for Cornyn and criticized the circumstances surrounding the Paxton divorce. A representative stated that what Angela is going through is “repulsive and disgusting” and offered prayers for her as she navigates this difficult period.
