Texas AG Sues Birth Tourism Center for Alleged Abuse of Citizenship Laws
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against a Houston-area center accused of helping Chinese nationals give birth in the U.S. to exploit birthright citizenship laws.
Paxton claims that the Daeye Postpartum Care Center is facilitating the illegal entry of Chinese citizens into Texas solely for the purpose of childbirth, which he argues is a violation of state law.
He stated, “Birthright citizenship is a fraud that threatens national security, and I will do everything in my power to stop illegal ‘birth tourism’ schemes like this one.”
The center openly advertised on Chinese social media that it has overseen the births of over 1,000 babies who are now American citizens, according to Paxton.
The investigation uncovered that the center operated in at least four locations—Sugar Land, Houston, Richmond, and Rosenberg—each handling multiple families and as many as 20 births daily.
Furthermore, it’s alleged that the center advised Chinese clients on how to bypass immigration laws to secure visas and citizenship for their children and families.
“America is for Americans, not for foreigners trying to game the system and claim citizenship,” Paxton remarked.
He added that the center’s activities not only facilitated illegal immigration into Texas but also encouraged immigration violations. His strong stance on this issue reflects a broader debate around birthright citizenship, which is currently being examined by the U.S. Supreme Court following actions taken by the Trump administration to limit citizenship for children born to foreign nationals on U.S. soil.
Critics of this policy argue it is driven by racism and xenophobia, while opponents of birthright citizenship contend the longstanding practice is based on a flawed interpretation of the 14th Amendment.
“There’s a tourism industry that revolves around this whole birthright citizenship thing. Women come here to give birth, and the baby becomes a U.S. citizen,” noted Sarah Gonzalez from Blaze TV. She found the situation unusual, remarking, “No one else would do this.”
Amidst this, Paxton is also facing a competitive race for the Republican nomination for one of Texas’ Senate seats against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. There are concerns that President Trump may intervene to consolidate support and minimize the chance of the seat shifting to Democratic control.
