Texas Bakery Faces Boycott Over Controversial Independence Day Post
A bakery in Texas has become the focal point of controversy following a Fourth of July social media post where the owner expressed her discontent with President Trump’s administration. The owner, Haley Popp, announced that she would remain open on the holiday, driven by frustration and fear regarding current political policies, which many have interpreted as a call for a boycott against her bakery.
In her Facebook post, Popp shared her feelings of confusion and disappointment about the state of the country. She stated, “We are confused, fearful and disappointed by the situation in our country, so we have expressed our intention not to celebrate the fourth time this year.”
Furthermore, she harshly criticized supporters of Trump, labeling them as members of “a cult of unintelligent fanatics and immoral sycophants.” She claimed that many rational conservatives have distanced themselves from the MAGA movement. Popp continued with her post by declaring, “Fuck this fascist regime and all those who perpetuate the downfall of our country,” indicating her intent to remain open on the holiday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
The post quickly gained traction on social media after being shared by various accounts, including the popular Libs of TikTok. In the aftermath, Popp reported an influx of supportive customers, particularly from liberals who purchased merchandise and baked goods to show their solidarity.
This isn’t Popp’s first political controversy. Back in 2022, she made headlines after posting a pro-abortion message that elicited angry responses from conservatives, which surprisingly led to increased business as liberals flocked to support her bakery.
In her previous statements, Popp had expressed her commitment to social issues, including support for LGBTQ rights, Black Lives Matter, and women’s rights. Her progressive stances have prompted reactions that continue to generate attention and controversy whenever she speaks out politically, suggesting a pattern in how her business benefits from these contentious discussions.
