Texas Attorney General Announces RNC Midterm Convention in Dallas

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat, has revealed that the Republican National Committee (RNC) plans to host its first midterm election convention in Dallas this September.

While the RNC hasn’t officially confirmed the details, reports indicate that their staff recently checked out the American Airlines Center in Dallas, with the venue apparently booked for the first two weeks of September.

“I know the midterms will be held in Dallas in September,” Paxton mentioned during a recent teletown hall. “We expect President Donald Trump will be there to speak.”

Trump has historically supported the idea of a midterm convention as a way to energize Republican voters, especially considering the usual dip in support that a ruling party faces leading up to midterm elections.

“The Republican Party will hold a midterm convention to showcase our accomplishments since the 2024 presidential election. We’ll share the time and location soon. It’s set to be very exciting,” he said in a social media post.

Back in March, RNC Chairman Joe Gruters lightheartedly referred to the event as a sort of “Trump-a-Palooza,” confirming that it would take place before the general election on November 3.

“There’s a narrow window for us to pull this off between the last primary vote and the general election. But yes, we’re very close to finalizing it,” he explained.

Though an official announcement regarding the competition isn’t out yet, a source familiar with the plans indicated that the convention is likely scheduled for September 9 and 10. This timing is significant as it falls just before the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks and the first anniversary of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Republicans are aiming to retain control of both houses of Congress, hoping to bolster the president’s legislative agenda for his final two years in office.
