Texas blocks Biden from disposing of border wall materials before Trump takes office

According to a press release from the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Biden administration will be prevented from removing border wall materials for the next 30 days and will hand over the materials for President-elect Trump to use at his disposal.

“Prior to President Trump's inauguration, we successfully prevented the Biden administration from disposing of any further border wall material,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement. issued Friday.

“This follows on from our huge victory in forcing Biden to build a wall, especially when the Biden administration is clearly motivated by a desire to stop the next president.” “We will hold President Trump accountable for illegally sabotaging our nation's border security until its final days,” the release added.

The order followed a hearing requested by Paxton over reports that the Biden administration was selling off portions of the border wall. President Trump last week asked a court in the Southern District of Texas to intervene in the alleged sale of border wall materials, saying the Biden administration sold the materials after Congress required them to do so.

According to the announcement, Texas is also entitled to receive documentation proving the Biden administration has not disposed of border wall materials, which would be in violation of regulations. injunction Earlier this year, Paxton called on the Biden administration to spend legally required funds to build the wall.

“If we find that the Biden administration disposed of border wall materials purchased with injunctive funds in violation of a court order, or that the Department of Justice misrepresented border materials that were auctioned off, , this would amount to unethical conduct that merits sanctions, and the responsible parties may be held in contempt of court,'' the release reads.

President Trump has repeatedly vowed to crack down on immigration and has signaled that he intends to overhaul immigration laws starting on January 20, when he officially takes office. In an interview earlier this month, he signaled he would push for mass deportations and the abolition of birthright citizenship.

Within weeks of his presidential victory, Mr. Trump also announced several immigration decisions that reinforced these intentions.
