Rep. Collin Allred (D-Texas) featured a southern border wall in a recent Senate campaign ad, despite previously claiming that former President Trump's proposed border wall was “racist.”

Democrats in July Election Advertising Trump walked with police officers along the border wall while attacking Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his opposition to border measures backed by Senate Democrats.

But Allred has long opposed the border wall and other elements of President Trump and Republican efforts to secure border security.

In fact, at a 2018 event, Allred told attendees, “If they're going to build a racist wall, it's going to be my generation that's going to tear it down. We're not going to build walls in this country.”

As a congressman, he has voted countless times against bills that would have introduced tough changes to address the crisis on the southern border, most notably voting against the HR 2 Border Security Act, sponsored by Republicans in the House and Senate, which is understood to propose the toughest crackdown on the southern border and illegal immigration.

He also voted for a resolution to end then-President Trump's national emergency declaration on the southern border and supported controversial measures, including a bill to limit the president's power to suspend or restrict the entry of illegal immigrants.

“Senator Allred is focused on solutions that both parties can support, fixing our broken immigration system and securing our border. Senator Ted Cruz served in the Senate for 12 years and accomplished nothing. He failed to get a bipartisan bill to secure our border. Ted is a liar and only thinks about himself, and the people of Texas know he will never be part of the real solution,” Allred spokesman Josh Stewart told Fox News Digital in a statement.

The border bill in question was negotiated by a bipartisan coalition of Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and James Lankford (R-Okla.), but Republicans largely rejected the resulting bill and were vocal critics throughout the negotiations.

A long-awaited version of the negotiated bill was released this year, but Republicans quickly rejected it.

Some members of the Senate Republican Conference have even said the measure would exacerbate the current border crisis.

Some have pointed to President Trump's opposition as the reason the bill failed, and one Republican senator told Fox News Digital that the bill probably wouldn't have passed anyway, but said they believe Trump would be happy to take credit.

In the latest procedural vote on the border bill, two of the three negotiators, Sinema and Lankford, voted against the bill.

Another Republican criticism of the bill is that the president currently has the authority to address many concerns at the border and doesn't need additional authorization from Congress to resolve the crisis.

Allred is not the only Democrat to have changed her stance on the border wall due to concerns about a surge in illegal immigration. Vice President Harris, who is running for president, has also used the Trump-era border wall in her campaign ads to promote a strong stance on the southern border.

The Trump campaign has slammed Harris, with a spokesman previously saying that her statement that she now supports Trump's border wall was an “absurd and false claim.”

Cook Political Report, The Texas Senate race is rated as “likely to be won by Republicans,” with Cruz holding a large advantage, but given the relatively unfavorable Senate map for Democrats, the Texas and Florida Senate races are the best chances for Democrats to win.

Allred has spent far more money on the campaign than Cruz so far, spending millions more on past advertising and future bookings ahead of the election.
