Texas FBI, local police 'conducting law enforcement activity' in connection to New Orleans attack

FBI Houston posted on social platform X that the agency, along with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, is “conducting law enforcement operations” in north Houston in connection with the New Orleans attack.

Law enforcement officials will be on the scene for several hours because “this activity is related to this morning's attack in New Orleans,” the post said.

The announcement comes as authorities say they do not believe Shamsuddin Jabbar, the American national who drove a pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans on New Year's Day, acted alone. .

The Associated Press reported in a state police bulletin that surveillance footage showed three men and a woman placing improvised explosive devices.

The attack killed at least 15 people and injured dozens more.

The FBI is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack because the driver had an ISIS flag displayed inside the vehicle.

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were just trying to celebrate the holiday,” President Biden said. “Violence of any kind is not justified and we will not tolerate attacks against any community in our country.”
