An 18-year-old student was shot five or six times by another student and died outside Bowie High School in Texas.
In a press conference, Arlington Police Chief Al Jones and Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith said the shooting occurred near a portable outdoor building at a local public school Wednesday around 2:50 p.m. said.
The school went into lockdown just as the students were about to leave for the day.
When school resource officers arrived on scene, they found an 18-year-old male student lying unresponsive on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities arrived at the scene at Bowie High School Wednesday at 2:50 p.m. (Fox 4)
The student was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but died on the way there.
The suspected shooter, a 17-year-old boy, tried to run away from the school, but police found him near campus and arrested him, police said. He will be charged with murder once he is booked into the Arlington City Jail, police said.

Families were told to reunite with their children several hours after the shooting at a district building several miles from campus.

Arlington police said they will share more information about the incident as it becomes available.

Dallas ISD expressed its condolences to the district in a statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Bowie High School and the Arlington ISD community,” Dallas ISD said in a statement. “We send our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt support during this difficult time.”
