Early Tuesday morning, a man carrying an AK-style rifle and his wife, who was also armed, confronted suspected car thieves at an apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas. told KSATTV.
Police said the man received a notification from a security monitoring system that someone was tampering with his vehicle, the department said.
“It's good for car owners. I wish more incidents were like this.”
Police told KSAT that the homeowner, armed with an AK-style rifle, and his wife, who was also armed, entered the garage shortly after 3 a.m. and arrested two suspects, one of whom was armed. He said he saw someone approaching from behind the car.
The homeowner fired shots at the two people, and the two fled in a vehicle, the department said.
Police learned after arriving at the scene that a man had been shot in the back and was dropped off at a nearby hospital, KSAT said, adding that the man was immediately taken to another hospital and his condition is unknown.
Investigators are looking into whether the injured man is connected to the incident at the apartment complex, police said. Police also told KSAT that he matched the suspect's description but was not cooperating with the investigation.
Police did not say whether charges are pending or whether the homeowner's car was damaged, the department said.
