U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reported that a recent immigration enforcement operation in southeastern Texas led to the apprehension of over 800 individuals, many of whom are associated with serious crimes, including membership in gangs, murder convictions, and child exploitation.
This operation spanned from August 17 to August 23 and aimed to enhance public safety in the region, particularly in light of challenges posed by the previous administration’s border policies. Specifically, a total of 822 illegal immigrants were arrested, with the agency noting that this group included five gang members, seven individuals with child-related offenses, and three convicted murderers. Out of those arrested, 330 had previously been deported from the U.S., and around 112 had returned illegally.
Acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez remarked that in the past four years, individuals such as cross-border gang members and foreign fugitives have exploited the situation at the southern border to unlawfully enter the U.S. He emphasized the ongoing threat posed by these individuals in local communities.
This year has witnessed nearly 200,000 deportations under the Trump administration, marking a significant increase.
Among the arrested individuals were 54-year-old Alejandro Perez Miramontes, a Mexican national with a history of multiple deportations and numerous convictions, including illegal re-entry and robbery. Another notable case involved William Alexander Teres Amaya, a 35-year-old registered sex offender who faced several convictions related to child sexual offenses.
Additionally, 30-year-old Jorge Elyzeo Torres Soto from Guatemala was apprehended for a prior sexual assault conviction, while 36-year-old Manuel Ivan Castillo Estrada had multiple deportations and a recent conviction for smuggling and child sexual assault. Other cases included Lloyd Tinashe Huwewe from Zimbabwe, who had been previously deported and convicted of driving offenses linked to a manslaughter incident.
ICE’s ongoing operations are indicative of efforts to target the most dangerous criminal aliens and uphold immigration law, with assistance from various federal agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Attempts to reach representatives from the Biden administration for comments went unanswered.
