Texas loses Quintrevion Wisner to the transfer portal

Texas Longhorns’ Rushing Game Hits a Snag

The Texas Longhorns are facing a significant setback just before their upcoming bowl game against the Michigan Wolverines. Their top running back, Quintrevion Wisner, will enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2, as confirmed by his agent, Grayson Cena, to various media outlets.

This season, Wisner led the Longhorns with an impressive total of 1,064 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 2024, along with 597 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2025. It’s a tough loss for the team, especially as they’ve been navigating a challenging season.

Last year, Wisner earned Third Team All-SEC honors as the Longhorns made it to the College Football Playoff semifinals. The team had a shaky start, initially ranked first nationally, but faced disappointment with early losses, notably to Ohio State.

Interestingly, Wisner had one standout performance this season—gaining 155 yards against Texas A&M in their final regular-season game. Despite that, the team didn’t qualify for the playoffs and will instead face Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

With Wisner’s departure, head coach Steve Sarkisian might take this as an opportunity to assess younger talent. Other players, like Christina Clarke and James Simon, are still on the roster, but CJ Baxter and Jerick Gibson have also indicated they plan to transfer. All these changes, I think, suggest significant shifts in the team dynamics moving forward.

Under the guidance of coach Arch Manning, Texas wrapped up the regular season with a record of 9-3, and it seems Manning will be back for another season in 2026. It’s, um, a pivotal time for the Longhorns as they look to rebuild and prepare for what’s next.
