Texas Engineer Stabbed to Death in Random Park Attack
A 62-year-old engineer from Texas, who had connections to various Fox News hosts, was tragically stabbed from behind during what authorities are calling a random attack while sitting on a park bench in Round Rock, Texas. The suspect has been identified as a repeat offender who had previously spent time in local jail earlier this year.
Andrew James Wimsatt, who lived in Austin, died on September 7, shortly after he sat down in the park following a visit to his mother at a nursing home nearby.
Williamson County deputies have arrested a 26-year-old man named Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, charging him with murder and theft.
The murder was captured on surveillance footage, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. They reported that Wimsatt sat on a park bench around 11 a.m. A few minutes later, another man, believed to be Ogbodiegwu, approached him from behind and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck.
Despite Wimsatt’s attempts to fight back, he was unable to fend off his attacker. After the assault, Ogbodiegwu allegedly wiped the blood on his shirt and walked away.
Wimsatt held a Ph.D. in civil engineering and was recognized on IMDB for his role as an executive producer of the horror/comedy “Director’s Cut.” He worked at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, continuing part-time even after his retirement. His Instagram featured a variety of posts including wildlife and cityscapes, showcasing his interests.
He had connections with several figures from Fox News. Commenting on the act of violence, Greg Gutfeld expressed his disbelief, stating, “The crime is so heinous and shocking that I’m still trying to comprehend it.” He reflected on how he met Wimsatt, noting that he was initially wary of Wimsatt’s enthusiasm for his show, but grew to appreciate his genuine kindness and support.
Kat Timpf described Wimsatt as a “fan who became a friend.” She mentioned that they had lunch together just a few months ago, and she was looking forward to seeing him again soon.
Wimsatt’s friendly demeanor shone through in his interactions—he frequently shared supporting messages with Timpf and would even send clips from her show to the cast of “Gutfeld!”
On Labor Day, a passerby discovered Wimsatt lying on the ground in the park and called 911, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators managed to track the suspect’s movements and found crucial evidence, including the murder weapon and clothing with blood stains. When confronted with video evidence, Ogbodiegwu allegedly claimed he had a twin brother but failed to provide a name.
Ogbodiegwu’s criminal history includes offenses dating back to 2017, with multiple arrests this year related to theft and using fake identification. Before his arrest for Wimsatt’s murder, he had just been released from jail on June 9, having spent several months behind bars earlier in the year.
Currently, Ogbodiegwu is being held on a $1 million bond, with a court appearance scheduled for October 8. Reflecting on the tragedy, Gutfeld highlighted the senselessness of the act, stating, “He was a kind, generous man, nearly beheaded in a park on a sunny morning, for no reason, just because.” He further emphasized the accountability required for those who enable such individuals to remain free.
