A Texas father was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison for shooting his wife in the head on camera after learning of her alleged affair.
Carrie Birmingham, 60, told her wife, Patricia, that she was “going to meet Jesus” moments before he shot her three times outside their home in Spring, Texas, in December 2021.
According to ABC 13, the two argued for about 30 minutes, then he shot her after learning she suspected him of cheating on her.
“I hope it was worth it,” he said in a video obtained by ABC 13. “It’s over, it’s over.”
Birmingham lawyer Anthony Osso said his client pleaded guilty directly to a rare all-female jury. Mr. Osso was trying to convince the panel that her husband shot his wife at that moment.
“We never tried to justify our client’s actions, but the defense wasn’t about justifying. It was about why he did what he did.” Osso told local media.
But his daughter Olivia has not come to his defense and is skeptical that her father’s crime was the result of a “sudden passion”.
“You have to have something. You have to make that decision within yourself for a while. You really want to do something for someone you love,” she said. told ABC 13.
“No matter what is said in this trial, you know what type of woman she was, what you did, and how he is my favorite person in the world.” I also know that he stole people.”
Olivia, who was at school when her mother was shot, said she lost her father the same day her mother died.
“I lost both my parents that day. My father died that day, too, because the person who did that to my mother and father is not the same person,” she said.
Olivia also accused her father of being emotionally and financially abusive and said she would never forgive him for his actions.
Birmingham will be eligible for parole within five years.
