Texas Man Found Dead in Prison After Brutal Murder Case

On Friday, a man who murdered his wife just four months after their wedding was discovered dead in his Texas prison cell.

Jared James Dicas, 24, had pleaded guilty to the horrific killing of his 21-year-old wife, Angie Diaz, in 2024. He received a 40-year prison sentence, with the possibility of parole not until 2043.

As reported, Dicas was found hanging in his cell at the Wainwright Unit in Houston County, according to state death reports.

Prison staff attempted life-saving measures, but emergency services pronounced him dead shortly before 11 p.m.

Dicas and Diaz had married in October 2022, despite concerns from friends who thought their relationship was troubled.

Days after the murder, Diaz’s dismembered remains were found in their home, including her severed head, which had been discarded with a knife in the shower. Her father discovered her body and immediately alerted the authorities.

Surveillance footage captured Dicas going to the market where Diaz worked, stealing a beer, and drinking it in the parking lot in the hours following the killing.

One of Diaz’s friends recalled that Dicas had expressed some anxiety about their marriage. The friend noted how strange it was that Dicas posted a video on social media claiming, “She’s mine,” without raising any suspicions.

Diaz and the friend met at a Christmas party shortly before the tragedy. Dicas left the event looking upset while others were enjoying themselves.

According to this friend, there were hints of domestic violence, but Dicas never openly recognized any issues. It seemed, perhaps, that Diaz might have felt embarrassed to admit that her marriage wasn’t as ideal as it appeared.

Authorities reached similar conclusions regarding the possibility of domestic violence, having received a prior disturbance call about the couple. Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry noted that the violence in Diaz’s murder was unlike anything they had encountered before.

Diaz had recently begun her career as a fitness coach and dreamed of settling down and having children. However, a friend had advised her against getting pregnant too quickly after marrying Dicas.
