Texas Man Found Dead in Prison Following Brutal Murder of Wife

A Texas man, who murdered his wife just months after their unplanned wedding, was discovered dead in his prison cell on Friday.

Jared James Dicas, 24, had pled guilty to the horrific killing of his wife, Angie Diaz, 21, during a public trial in 2024.

He received a 40-year prison sentence, with the possibility of parole starting in 2043.

Authorities reported that Dicas was found hanging in his cell at the Houston County Wainwright Unit. Attempts to revive him by prison staff were unsuccessful, and paramedics later pronounced him dead shortly before 11 p.m.

Diaz and Dicas had married in October 2022, despite friends expressing concern over their tumultuous relationship.

On January 11, 2023, authorities discovered Diaz’s dismembered body, including her severed head, in their Houston-area home. She was found in a bathroom, where a knife had also been located.

Diaz’s father, who lived nearby, found her body and immediately contacted law enforcement.

After the murder, Dicas spent several hours before his arrest. During this time, he was seen on surveillance footage at Chepes meat market, where he stole a beer and consumed it in the parking lot.

A friend of Diaz shared that she had sensed something was troubling Diaz about her marriage. The friend noted, “He posted a video on social media saying ‘she’s mine,’ which felt strange because no one questioned it… It just seemed to happen out of nowhere.”

She recalled the last time she saw Diaz was at a Christmas party, less than a month before the tragic event. Dicas was also present, but left suddenly, looking visibly upset.

The friend expressed concern that Diaz might have been a victim of domestic violence, mentioning, “She never spoke up, perhaps too embarrassed to admit their relationship had issues.” This suspicion was echoed by local law enforcement, who stated they were aware of prior disturbances involving the couple, but nothing indicated the extreme violence that led to Diaz’s death.

Diaz had recently begun a career as a fitness coach and had hopes of starting a family. A friend advised her against getting pregnant too soon after marrying Dicas.
