Texas mother abandoned children to go on cruise vacation

A Texas mother was arrested last week after allegedly leaving her two young children behind to go on a Caribbean cruise, police said.

On Thursday, 29-year-old Lakesha Woods Williams was arrested on two counts of child endangerment.

Williams is accused of leaving her children, ages 6 and 8, in a high-rise apartment in Houston’s Memorial District. Police say she left the children alone at her home for six days as her mother vacationed on a Caribbean cruise.

Williams was able to abandon her children and fly to Miami, then vacation on a cruise ship to Puerto Rico.

Police conducted a child welfare check on April 9 and discovered the abandoned child. The young children reported to police that their mother had left them alone to go on a Caribbean cruise.

ABC Houston affiliate station KTRK-TV They reported that the apartment was in disarray, littered with trash and leftover food, and had a “strong” smell of urine.

Emergency personnel and Child Protective Services were called to the home to check on the children’s welfare. Firefighters said the children were “in good health and not malnourished.”

Investigators believe no adults checked on the young children in six days.

The mother reportedly left cameras inside the apartment house to monitor the children when they were unsupervised.

Both children were removed from the home and released to their aunt.

Williams reportedly lied about his identity during police questioning.

“Officers attempted to contact the defendant at the scene, but the defendant did not cooperate and changed his story about his whereabouts,” the criminal complaint states.

Harris County Constable 5th Precinct stated: statement “We are still putting together the facts and circumstances of how these children were left alone for several days, but importantly, they are now safe and those responsible have been identified. “They must be held accountable for leaving these children in dangerous situations.”

Keegan Childers, Chief Prosecutor of the 209th District Court. Said: “These children were left alone and in dangerous situations for days on end. Not only were they able to feed themselves, feed themselves, and take care of themselves, but if someone broke in, What would you do if you had a bad neighbor? There are so many scary and nightmare scenarios that could happen. ”

Williams was booked into the Harris County Detention Center the day after returning to his apartment from his cruise trip.

Her bond is set at $25,000.

Records show Williams is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
