Authorities reported the arrest of a suspect in Texas accused of damaging and pursuing vehicles belonging to immigrant and customs enforcement. The incident took place on a Wednesday near a shopping plaza outside Houston, according to Officer Mark Herman from Harris County.
In a Facebook update, Herman noted that agents were engaged with unknown suspects when the situation escalated. He explained that the investigation found Olivares had confronted federal agents, damaged their vehicle’s side mirrors, and then recklessly chased them, endangering drivers nearby.
The police intervened and assisted ICE in detaining Olivares without further issues. There hasn’t been an immediate response from ICE or the Department of Homeland Security regarding this incident.
Olivares now faces charges of criminal mischief and is being held at the Harris County Jail with a bond set at $500. This incident follows recent events where ten individuals were charged after a violent encounter at the Prairiland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, during the Fourth of July weekend.
Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin from DHS released a statement highlighting that a group violently attacked the detention center, injuring a police officer who was hospitalized but is recovering well.
Interestingly, there’s a broader concern, as there was another ambush against Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas, just a couple of days prior. These events underscore the rising tensions surrounding immigration enforcement actions in the area.
