Texas QB Arch Manning injured in Longhorns' overtime victory over Mississippi State

During a recent overtime victory against Mississippi State, Texas quarterback Arch Manning may have sustained an injury. He managed to scramble for 13 yards on the first play of overtime but exited the field due to discomfort in his upper body. Subsequently, backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell stepped in and successfully threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley, securing a 45-38 win for the team.

After the game, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t give an immediate update on Manning’s condition but took the time to commend Caldwell’s performance. It must have been quite the moment for Caldwell, who, according to Sarkisian, has a strong rapport with Manning.

Before leaving, Manning had played a significant role, helping the Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 SEC) recover from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter. He completed 29 of 46 passes for 346 yards, notching three touchdowns and one interception, while also scoring a rushing touchdown.

It’s interesting—Manning had faced some criticism for a subpar performance against Kentucky State the previous week, which adds to the overall narrative of what’s been a pretty divisive season for this promising young quarterback.
