On Monday, police confirmed that a Texas man with a history of repeat offenses has been apprehended in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman. Kevin Pho, 24, was wanted on capital murder charges linked to the disappearance and subsequent death of Ashanti Allen, 23, who was eight months pregnant at the time she went missing on April 10.
Authorities reported that Pho was arrested without any incidents by the U.S. Marshals in New Orleans. Allen, who had a high-risk pregnancy, was last seen leaving her home in Houston. Tragically, she was found dead on April 16, just days after she vanished. Police have identified Pho as the suspect in her death. It’s worth noting that Pho was, in fact, the father of Allen’s unborn child.
Court records indicate that Pho has a lengthy criminal history, with multiple incidents of assault. This includes a 2019 charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and more recent incidents in 2021 and 2025 involving Allen herself. He had been jailed for a prior assault on her, but received a reduced sentence due to a judicial credit often used within the prison system.
Allen’s mother stated that she was unaware of Pho’s violent background and expressed that had she known, Pho would never have been allowed to be around her daughter. The specific cause of Allen’s death remains unknown, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
If anyone has any information related to this case, they are encouraged to reach out to the Houston Police Department’s Homicide division or Crime Stoppers.
