Uncle Intervenes in Armed Robbery at Costco

Last week, a group of three armed robbers faced unexpected trouble while attempting to snatch a watch from a victim during a planned sale. As the incident unfolded, the victim’s uncle, who was armed, witnessed the crime and reacted quickly, according to Texas law enforcement.

Constable Mark Herman from the Harris County 4th Precinct detailed the situation during a press conference. His comments begin shortly before the 14-minute mark.

Herman explained that the victim had arranged to sell his watch and decided to meet the buyer outside a Costco in Cypress, which is roughly half an hour northwest of Houston, around 8 p.m. on Thursday. However, the buyer had no intention of purchasing the watch; instead, he showed up with two accomplices and held the victim at gunpoint in a robbery attempt.

While they did manage to take the watch, the victim’s uncle emerged from Costco, saw what was happening, and opened fire. Herman indicated that the uncle shot and killed two of the suspects, though all three individuals fled the location.

The two suspects, aged 17 and 18, were hospitalized, with one undergoing surgery, but both are expected to recover. Herman mentioned that aggravated robbery charges are likely to be filed against them. The 16-year-old suspect was captured and also faces aggravated robbery charges, but has been passed on to juvenile authorities.

During the investigation, police discovered several firearms and additional stolen items. It remains unclear whether the uncle had accompanied his nephew to the meeting or if he merely happened to be in the vicinity.

Herman urged caution regarding in-person transactions, even in public spaces, stressing that meeting a stranger in a parking lot carries significant risks. “Why would you meet a stranger in a parking lot to sell something?” he questioned during the press conference. He further advised that sometimes, strangers may arrive at your home to conduct business, putting your security at risk.

“Don’t do it,” Herman emphasized. “You’re putting your life at risk for a few hundred dollars. It’s just common sense.”
