Texas Whataburger Manager Fights Off Alleged Attacker with Trash Can

Incident at Whataburger in Texas

A video that’s gone viral from a Whataburger in Paris, Texas, depicts a restaurant manager using a plastic trash can to confront an unruly customer. This customer allegedly got behind the counter and attacked the manager. The specifics of the customer’s order remain unclear, but the footage clearly shows the chaotic situation that unfolded.

This incident took place on a Sunday in a small North Texas town, as reported by WFAA ABC 8. A customer captured the moment when the manager subdued the customer during the altercation. Witnesses noted that the man had been verbally abusive towards the staff, prompting the manager to ask him to leave. He complied momentarily but returned shortly after and is said to have assaulted the manager.

During the struggle behind the counter, the manager managed to take control of the situation, employing the trash can as a means to fend off the suspect. Eventually, he succeeded in removing the man from the fast-food establishment.

Paris police, along with Lamar County deputies, later found the suspect lingering outside the restaurant. He was identified as 41-year-old Anthony William Newhouse from Spring, Texas. Officers suspected that Newhouse was under the influence at the time. He needed treatment for minor injuries he sustained during the incident.

After receiving care, Newhouse was taken to a local jail, where authorities reported that he intentionally flooded his cell, causing further damage. Now, he faces additional charges related to this incident along with the original charges, which include assault causing bodily harm, public intoxication, and criminal mischief under $750.

A spokesperson for Whataburger commented on the incident, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to the safety of both guests and employees, and stating their cooperation with authorities in the matter.
