Texas woman sues vacation rental companies for husband’s death in jacuzzi

A Texas woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against two Mexican resort travel companies, seeking more than $1 million in damages, after her husband was tragically electrocuted in a resort hot tub.

The lawsuit, filed by Lizette Zambrano of El Paso County, Texas, names as defendants vacation rental companies Casago LLC, Casago International LLC and High Desert Travel, which operate the Sonoran Sea Resort where she stayed with her husband, Jorge Guillen.

Zambrano accused the companies of “gross negligence” and called for them to “take responsibility” for the death of her 43-year-old husband.

“I want someone to be held accountable for what happened to my husband and me,” Zambrano said. He spoke on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The lawsuit paints a picture of the couple’s final moments before he was electrocuted in a hot tub while on vacation.

As soon as Guillen entered the bathtub, he was “exposed to electrical current in the water,” the report said.

“Jorge immediately collapsed into the bathtub and sank below the surface of the water,” the lawsuit states. “Lisette quickly witnessed her husband fall and immediately jumped from the pool deck to try and grab Jorge.”

Zambrano tried to rescue him, but he was in shock himself.

She was eventually rescued by passersby and taken to hospital.

“In an attempt to assist, guests grabbed crosses and other objects to try and free Jorge’s body,” the lawsuit states, “but the metal in the objects carried electrical current and began electrocuting rescuers.”

According to the lawsuit, it took “10 minutes of hard work” before staff “began to assist in rescuing Jorge.”

“Prior to this, the defendants never attempted to activate the hot tub’s emergency shutoff device or rescue Jorge or Lizette,” the document states. “Jorge was electrocuted and submerged in the water for 10 minutes.”

“Our best friend was in a horrible accident. Jorge was a kind hearted man who always gave back to his family and friends. The love they shared will last forever,” reads a GoFundMe page set up for the couple.

In the comments New York PostMr. Casago denied responsibility.

“Sonoran Sea is a condominium resort and the homeowners association is responsible for all common areas, including the pool, hot tub and grounds maintenance,” they say. “Casago, the vacation rental company, has no involvement in the management or maintenance of the resort.”
