TGL: Tiger Woods set for debut in Match 2 against Collin Morikawa, Los Angeles Golf Club

After a successful launch on January 7th and huge acclaim from golf fans, TGL returns on Tuesday with the biggest names in gaming.

Tiger Woods, one of the co-founders, will lead his Jupiter Golf Links into a battle with Los Angeles Golf Club, the team led by two-time major champion Collin Morikawa.

Sahis Segala and Justin Rose will join Morikawa as the fourth member of the team, Tommy Fleetwood, will compete in this week's Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have also competed in this event, which has historically been one of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour.

Back at SoFi Center in Florida, PGA Tour fan favorite turned NBC Sports analyst Kevin Kisner and Kisner's fellow comedic genius Max Homa will join Woods for the match against Los Angeles. It should be fun to hear them talk strategy and throw jabs at each other.

story:

The golf world is intrigued whenever Tiger Woods is involved. At last month's PNC Championship, Woods and his son Charlie lost in a playoff to Bernhardt and Jason Langer. But the highlight of that event, and perhaps the highlight of the decade for the Woods family, was Charlie's incredible ace on the fourth hole. The shot quickly went viral and created one of the most stunning photos of the 2024 golf season.

Fast forward to this week, and Woods is ready to play again. He had hip surgery in September, but showed no signs of pain at the PNC Championship. He walked 18 holes three days in a row, something many didn't think he would be able to do considering his recent surgery. Luckily for Woods, he doesn't have to walk far to the SoFi Center. All you have to do is hit a shot on the screen and then advance to the green zone from time to time.

What happens with him will be the talk of the sports world on Tuesday. He finished last at last year's Masters, missing out on the PGA Championship, U.S. Open and British Open. His only appearance in 2024 was at the Genesis Invitational in February, but he withdrew due to illness.

It's unusual for Woods to be playing now, considering he's 49 years old and less than a year away from qualifying for the Champions Tour. But he remains a force to be reckoned with, as highlighted in the PGA Tour's Performance Impact program last year, where he won again. So Woods' playing on Tuesday will be the biggest story, overshadowing every other player. Others are used to it because Woods has transcended the sport beyond anyone's imagination. He also produced one of the best seasons of all time 25 years ago, one that will never be repeated. Perhaps Woods can work his TGL magic in 2025.

The 15-time major champion will be joined by Homa and Kisner, who both struggled through the 2024 season. Homa finished in the top 10 in just three of the 22 tournaments he competed in last year. He recently tied for 26th in the Sentry to open the 2025 season. Kisner, on the other hand, is on the back nine of his career, as evidenced by his recent deal with NBC Sports. Still, he played 23 times but missed the cut 17 times. His best finish was a tie for 29th at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

On the other side is Morikawa, one of the best players in the world.

Although the former California Golden Bear didn't win, he had a great 2024 season. Scotty Scheffler was involved in that several times, especially at Monument and Eastlake.

Morikawa enters SoFi Center with a score of 32 under at The Sentry, the fifth-lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history. However, Morikawa lost by three points to Hideki Matsuyama, who set the PGA Tour scoring record. It's been a long time coming for the two-time major champion, but Morikawa is easily the best player in this week's game.

Segala, on the other hand, is the only player to have played in both the Sentry and the Sony Open in Hawaii. He started 2025 fielding T-36s and T-37s, which are now arriving in South Florida after a long flight from Honolulu. Hopefully he feels well rested.

And then there's Rose, who led Great Britain and Ireland to victory in the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi. Like Segala, Rose also has to travel a long distance to get to the SoFi Center, which could lead to fatigue in his performance at Los Angeles Golf Club. But with Morikawa in the mix, Los Angeles will be the favorite over Woods, Kisner and Homa.
