Drivers who choose a cheaper but more reliable car tend to pay less than those who choose a more expensive car.

“Affordable cars tend to be cheaper to insure because they are generally cheaper to repair or replace, and they also have lower collision and comprehensive coverage premiums,” Schrader told Fox. “Whether it’s a new or used car, insurers will look at how much comparable cars are selling for at auction to determine the car’s true value. But insurance premiums don’t just depend on the price or value of the car; factors such as theft risk and driver profile, including age and driving history, also play an important role.”

“Budget-friendly cars are often cheaper to insure, but it’s important to get quotes and take all these factors into account to fully understand your premium,” Schroeder continued.
