If you’re thinking about enjoying your retirement years comfortably, you might want to check out some of these thriving communities.
According to a list from GOBankingRates, some of America’s safest and most affluent retirement towns include a notable entry from New Jersey.
The list was generated by examining data from various sources like the U.S. Census’ American Community Survey and the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey. To make the cut, towns needed to have at least 25% of their population aged 65 and older.
Fort Lee, New Jersey, earned the 12th spot and is the only town from the tri-state area to be recognized.
Adjacent to Manhattan, Fort Lee is seen as a suburban extension of the city, boasting an impressive livability score of 88. It benefits from low rates of violent and property crime, alongside convenient access to Manhattan.
The average retirement income in this area is about $47,944, while single-family homes average around $939,775, reflecting a relatively wealthy demographic.
Notably, Fort Lee is one of just two towns from the Northeast featured in the GOBankingRates list.
Gloucester, Massachusetts, also made an appearance, ranking 27th.
Interestingly, no towns from Florida were included, which is a bit surprising given that Florida is often viewed as a prime destination for retirees.
On the other hand, California had a strong presence with 12 towns listed as safe and wealthy retirement spots, including Rancho Palos Verdes and Palm Springs.
Arizona was also well-represented, with seven towns making the list, including the top-ranking location.
Oro Valley, located just north of Tucson, has been declared the safest and wealthiest retirement town in America.
It features a solid livability score of 81, highlighted by a low crime rate and excellent urban amenities.
Those who appreciate the outdoors will find plenty to love here, from stunning mountain views to numerous golf courses and hiking trails.
The community vibe is also appealing, with weekly farmers markets, festive parades, and a variety of local art galleries.
