The ‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Cast Knows Fans Are Going To Call The Show “ASS”

The latest scathing anthology series from Ryan Murphy, Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson. The 10-part series is based on the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football, Inc.” and stars up-and-coming footballer Josh Andres Rivera (West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes The same goes for Hernandez himself.

Like American Horror Story and American Crime Story Before that, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez It features a stellar ensemble cast of rising stars and theatrical greats, some sharp commentary on sex, and some horrifying scenes that stick with you long after the credits roll. But unlike the hit shows nicknamed “AHS” and “ACS,” American Sports Stories Fans may not want the show's title to be shortened to the obvious acronym “ASS.”

When Decider caught up American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez The team, who met with executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson as well as the show's core cast members at TCA in summer 2024, had mixed reactions to the show's possible nickname, with Jacobson and Simpson, for example, revealing that they would prefer the show have a different abbreviation.

“We're aware” that the acronym that's appropriate for their serious show is a vulgar description of someone's buttocks, Nina Jacobson said.

“I mean, if that's what you're trying to do, I can't get you to say it on camera right now,” Brad Simpson said, cheekily refusing to say it aloud. “But I think it's a good thing that people are saying it. Sports Story Abbreviated as “”.

“The daily breakdown sheet had the acronym 'ASS' on it,” Butts said.

“Oh really?” said a surprised Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays Tim Tebow on the show.

“That's probably going to happen in some articles,” Butts said.

“That's so funny,” Schwarzenegger said.

“It's good for a laugh, but it might have some issues,” Butts said.

Schwarzenegger said he had no idea the show might be called “ASS,” but when Decider brought it up, series star Josh Rivera and lead actress Jaylen Barron, who plays Hernandez's widow Shayanna Jenkins, chuckled with relief.

“Oh man, it's tough!” Jaylan Barron said. Josh Rivera nodded and smiled. “I think about it all the time.”

“We talked about it,” Rivera said with a laugh.

“Yes!” Barron said. “Can I say that on camera? What are those words?”

“Yeah, it's funny because you brought it up first. It's been in my head for months, like, 'A dick,'” Rivera said. “So I'm prepared for that.”

You can call it “ASS”, “ASS” or “Sports Story” for short. American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez The series will officially premiere on FX on Tuesday, September 17th at 10pm ET/PT, and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
