“The Apprentice,” a film focusing on former President Trump, is set to be released in the US before Election Day.

The film is scheduled for release in the U.S. and Canada on October 11th through Briarcliff Entertainment, according to the Associated Press.

Trump campaign communications director Stephen Chang, in a statement to The Hill on Friday, called the film “pure fiction that sensationalizes lies that have long since been exposed.”

“This film is an absolute slander and should never have seen the light of day. It doesn't even deserve to be in the bargain DVD section of a soon-to-be-closing discount cinema store. It belongs in the bin,” Chang said.

In May, Trump's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the makers of “The Apprentice,” a film that stars “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” star Sebastian Stan as a young Trump and “Succession” actor Jeremy Strong as notorious lawyer Roy Cohn. Trump's team tried to block the film's release and threatened to sue.

“While this film is portrayed as a factual biography of Mr. Trump, nothing could be further from the truth,” said the letter from Trump lawyer David Warrington to Abbasi and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman.

“This is a fabrication of lies that repeatedly defame President Trump and constitutes direct foreign interference in an American election,” the letter said. “If you do not immediately cease distribution and sale of this defamatory farce, we will be forced to pursue all appropriate legal remedies.”

in Previous statement Speaking to Variety, the film's producers called it a “fair and balanced portrayal of the former president.”
