ATF Director Candidate Discusses Gun Rights in Senate Hearing
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Robert Secada, the candidate for the ATF director position, made it clear that “ATF’s mission is not to burden legal gun owners.” He stressed the importance of the right to bear arms, stating it is guaranteed by the Constitution, and expressed his commitment to protecting that right.
When asked about policies that might hinder the Second Amendment, Secada noted that, in line with President Trump’s Executive Order on the Second Amendment, a review of all ATF policies, procedures, and regulations will take place to ensure they do not unnecessarily violate this right.
The Second Amendment Foundation praised Secada’s stance, emphasizing their encouragement regarding his belief that the ATF should not impose burdens on legal gun owners. They expressed hope that his leadership would steer the ATF in a more favorable direction than in recent years, though they are prepared to take action if necessary.
Secada previously shared his views during the 2026 SHOT Show and at the ATF’s headquarters in Las Vegas last month. He reiterated his commitment to preventing the agency from being used against lawful gun owners, a concern that has arisen in past administrations.
His strong beliefs about respecting the Second Amendment were evident throughout the discussions.
