The Biden/Schumer Open Border Bill Is an ‘Absolute Non-Starter’

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) said Sunday that the facility’s “border” bill is “an absolute nonstarter.”

The Senate released an emergency supplemental spending bill that includes, among other things, an establishment border bill, but as Breitbart News reported, the bill does little to stem the migrant crisis at the southern border.

Stefanik writes:

This Joe Biden/Chuck Schumer Open Borders Act is no trigger at all and will only further encourage thousands of illegal aliens to cross the border each day. House Republicans have already passed HR2, the Border Security Act, which would return to effective Trump policies that actually secure the border and create the most secure border in our nation’s history.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) said in a statement:

As my staff and I consider this bill, I will work with Chairman Johnson to eliminate the perverse incentives created by Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas through his illegal mass capture and release program and refusal to remove it. We oppose new agreements that cannot be made. People who have no legal basis to stay in the country.

In particular, we firmly oppose any agreement that would legalize or normalize illegal immigration at any level. Congress, with its bipartisan majorities, gives the executive branch all the powers it needs to enforce the law and secure our borders. These majorities mandated the detention and transfer of inadmissible aliens with the availability of parole under very limited and exceptional circumstances. Further carve-outs will only lead to further abuse by criminal cartels and lawless bureaucrats like Mayorkas.

He added: “We must end this historic border crisis not through legislative ‘feel-good’ efforts, but through law enforcement.”
