Angel Studios has officially announced the release date for the much-anticipated sixth season of The Chosen, which will portray the crucifixion of Christ and serve as the concluding season of the beloved series.
According to 5&2 Studios, the first three episodes of Season 6 will debut on Prime Video on November 15th, with subsequent episodes being released weekly until December 6th. Additionally, the season finale will make its way to theaters as a standalone event in spring 2027.
Season 6 “explores the historical events of Jesus’ last day through the perspectives of those who cherished him as well as those who condemned him,” the announcement elaborated.
It continued, “The Pharisees call it justice, the Romans call it peace, and his followers call it murder. Yet, even amidst solitude and impending death, Jesus remains unwavering in his mission, which has always led him to one destination: the cross. This season uncovers how Jesus’ last hours forever altered the course of history.”
Creator and director Dallas Jenkins emphasized the depth of this story, noting, “While many are familiar with the basic elements, fewer understand the ‘why’ behind the crucifixion and the remarkable events of those final 24 hours. We found that it merited not just a season, but also a feature-length theatrical experience. We kept this vision at the forefront during writing and shooting.”
Jonathan Roumie will reprise his role as Jesus, and Andrew James Allen will portray Pontius Pilate.
“Without the cross, there is no resurrection,” Roumie shared on Instagram, echoing the core message of salvation.
Jenkins also reinforced this idea in his social media comments, aiming to convey the significance of what Jesus endured and what he wishes for us to learn.
The first five seasons are currently available on Prime Video and the app for The Chosen.
Filming for Season 7 is set to take place this year, focusing on the resurrection.
