The Democratic Socialists of America’s requests to Mamdani on how to manage an NYC that opposes Israel

Democratic Socialists of America Push Anti-Israel Agenda for New Mayor

Documents that have surfaced suggest the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is planning to pressure incoming Mayor Zoran Mamdani to adopt strongly anti-Israel policies.

The DSA’s Anti-War Task Force has outlined a 12-point list of demands that includes canceling all city contracts with companies associated with Israel and withdrawing funds from banks that lend to the country, as reported by NYC-DSA.

These five-page documents were shared during a public meeting on November 2, indicating that the group has been strategizing since at least late September on how to ensure that Mamdani fully endorses these anti-Israel stances and remains resolute against political pressure once he takes office in January.

Additional proposals from the DSA include:

  • Divesting city pensions from Israeli securities.
  • Prohibiting the sale of Israeli products in municipal grocery stores that Mamdani plans to establish.
  • Investigating real estate agents involved in “illegal sales of stolen land in the West Bank.”
  • Revoking the tax-exempt status of organizations that fund the Israel Defense Forces.
  • Ending NYPD training programs with Israeli military personnel.
  • Arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and serving IDF members for alleged “war crimes” if they visit New York.
  • Disbanding the New York City-Israel Economic Council set up by outgoing Mayor Adams.

Mamdani has consistently refused to alter his stance that Israel should not exist as a Jewish state and has not condemned what he terms a “global intifada” aiming for Israel’s destruction.

State Representative Kalman Jaeger, a conservative Democrat and Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn, commented, “At least the DSA mask is off. This was never about affordability or free services; it was always about Jew hatred.”

He continued, “In local governance, the DSA seems only focused on Israel. Most New Yorkers aren’t naive.”

Mamdani’s father, Mahmoud Mamdani, known for his support of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, has previously met with Jewish leaders but faces scrutiny for allegations against Israel. He has publicly denounced anti-Semitism during his campaign.

Political director Alicia Singham Goodwin, related to a prominent leftist figure, has helped Mamdani navigate accusations of anti-Semitism through a “Jews for Zoran” campaign.

Despite this, Mamdani maintains that Israel’s existence as a Jewish state is untenable.

City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-Brooklyn) expressed concern about the DSA documents and suggested that “Comrade Zoran” will likely act as a “radical DSA puppet.” She added, “It was clear he would represent the most extreme views in our city’s government. Let’s see what unfolds when a radical takes charge.”

Neither Mamdani nor representatives from NYC-DSA responded to requests for comment.
