Michael Jordan is indeed a billionaire, yet NBC reportedly doesn’t plan to increase that figure by $40 million annually.
A month ago, it was announced that Jordan would join NBC’s NBA coverage next season as a special contributor.
While many assumed that his salary would be $40 million, Ryan Glas Piegel from Front Office Sports indicated that this figure is inaccurate.
Questions around how much the NBA legend will earn have popped up on social media, with reports from The US Sun and comments from Stephen A. Smith. Many seem to believe the higher salary is correct.
If true, a $40 million annual pay would nearly double what Charles Barkley earns from his deal with TNT.
Details about the specifics of Jordan’s role at NBC remain somewhat hazy. As per information from CNBC, “the initial plan is that Jordan will contribute to segments filmed specifically to offer analysis that’s included in pre-game and halftime shows.”
Although the exact details of his compensation and responsibilities are still unclear, one thing remains certain.
“He’ll be brutally honest, I can guarantee that,” Smith commented. “He won’t hold back… Michael Jordan is straightforward when discussing basketball. He’s not out to offend anyone.”
Since retiring, the six-time NBA champion and Finals MVP has seldom appeared on television, but it seems NBC’s acquisition of NBA coverage has changed that.
“I’m thrilled to see NBC’s return to the NBA,” Jordan expressed. “The NBA on NBC is a significant part of my career, and I’m eager to contribute to this project. I can’t wait to connect with everyone when the NBA kicks off this October.”
