The 'disaster' affecting Jordan Spieth's career — Gary Player speaks openly

Golf players believe that the “Jordans piece” could set a new benchmark for the sport.

They expressed disappointment over Jordan Spieth’s recent withdrawal, attributing it to ineffective coaching.

“I truly think Jordan Spieth is one of the best golfers today, yet, in my view, he received poor instruction. It’s tragic. He’s on a decline,” shared a seasoned player during a video on his YouTube channel, “The Golf Supply.” He mused that if someone like Ben Hogan had coached Spieth, he’d dominate the sport. He’s incredibly competitive and has an outstanding short game and course management skills. But the question remains—can he hit the ball? It’s really a tragedy,” he added.

The 89-year-old veteran has closely followed Spieth’s career and emphasized the “remarkable lack of understanding” surrounding golf techniques.

He voiced concerns about the coaching methods prevalent in the U.S., particularly criticizing wrist techniques, declaring such approaches limit players’ potential.

“Golf instructors in the U.S. often admit they don’t truly grasp golf,” he pointed out.

The nine-time major champion also mentioned Dustin Johnson, quizzically asking, “When was the last time you heard anything about him?”

He later advised students on proper grip techniques, discussing both Spieth and Ricky Fowler’s performances.

Despite his critiques, he found a glimmer of hope for Spieth, mentioning he had recently observed improvements in his swing.

“He might bounce back this week,” he noted, expressing his wish for Spieth’s success.

At 31, Spieth was once one of the top-ranked golfers, having clinched three major titles, the last being the Open Championship in 2017.

Currently, he holds the 52nd position in the world rankings, and has not won an event since the 2022 RBC Heritage.

This year, Spieth did place fourth twice; however, he finished 40th, 31st, and 38th in his last three outings.

Earlier this year, he also withdrew from an event for the first time in his career, due to injury.

Spieth has not participated in this week’s BMW Championship, having fallen outside the top 50 in FedEx Cup standings.
