The Disney CEO seems to hope that ‘The View’ eases its critical stance on Trump.

Disney CEO Bob Iger and ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic have reportedly advised the co-hosts of “The View” to tone down their political discussions. Sources from Disney indicated that both Iger and Karamehmedovic suggested that while political topics are important, the show’s panel should diversify their discussions, as it’s essential to cater to a wider audience.

It seems that “The View” co-hosts, particularly Ana Navarro, reacted strongly to this recommendation. She expressed that the audience desires political dialogue, questioning whether not discussing such topics would reflect poorly on the show’s relevance. Despite the executives’ suggestions, the hosts felt a bit resistant to these ideas. Navarro emphasized that, as she told the ABC News head, their viewers want to engage in these political conversations.

Reports mentioned that Karamehmedovic had a meeting with the show’s executive producer and hosts, encouraging them to broaden their content beyond politics. He pointed to successful segments that featured high-profile guests, urging a shift in focus. However, it seemed many on the panel were not keen on this direction, considering it somewhat trivial. They conveyed that they would like to maintain their current approach.

The previous week, Navarro had a discussion with Iger at an event, where she thanked him for supporting their politically charged content amid a divided political landscape. Iger reportedly acknowledged her gratitude but hinted there should be a more relaxed tone regarding political commentary. This back-and-forth reflects the ongoing debate within ABC regarding the balance of political discussion on daytime television.

Interestingly, sources had previously noted that there was a drop in morale among the cast, especially during the noise surrounding Trump’s inauguration. ABC was said to be actively engaging with their talent based on audience responses, suggesting that the latest recommendations from Iger and Karamehmedovic were part of ongoing adjustments to better match audience expectations. However, a spokesperson for ABC declined to comment, and Disney representatives remained silent on the matter.
